Getting to Know Your Designer

Karen Childress grew up in the hills of Northwest Arkansas and obtained a degree in Interior Design from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She gained early experience in kitchen and bath design while interning with Kitchen Distributors in Fayetteville, AR, before moving to the Texoma area, where she spent over two decades as a homeschool mom raising seven children.

Both as a mother and a designer, Karen has always exhibited characteristics that make her an outstanding designer and professional collaborator: practicality, attention to detail, and asking the important questions—all with a sprinkle of humor. She also flexed her design muscles over the years by teaching old-school drafting design with T-squares to high schoolers (in her own work, she’s since upgraded to using state-of-the-art computerized software for 3-D renderings of designs and floor plans).

Karen began working as a Designer full time in 2015, enhancing her education in design with cutting-edge trainings, certification in Aging In Place, and also becoming a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). Karen specializes in kitchen and bath design, with a keen eye for challenging tasks like optimizing small bathroom spaces and creating beautiful, functional kitchen designs. She has also worked with many clients to create plans for full house remodels and new build designs.

In addition to running her own Design business, Karen worked with an architectural firm for two years as a project coordinator, product specifier, and Designer, tackling some of the design tasks outside of architects’ specialization. As a designer and space planner, Karen is much more than an interior designer but not the same as an architect. (Wondering when you need an architect and when a designer is a better fit? Karen’s design philosophy is simple: providing functional, timeless spaces that beautifully express your unique vision and style. Karen is focused on getting things right the first time—in the design phase, not the build phase. Catching mistakes or changing your mind early on by an early focus on design saves time, saves money, and saves many unnecessary headaches [ADD hyperlink to article about why you need a designer]. Karen’s focus on you—the client—means she is not coming to the table with cookie-cutter solutions for your kitchen, bathroom, or home. Each design carefully takes into consideration your needs, your space, and how the design meets both your immediate and long-term requirements.

Karen’s business philosophy is as simple and elegant as her design philosophy: integrity, timeliness, and top-notch communication. Whether you are looking for a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel, an update to your living space to facilitate aging in place, or an original design for a new home, Karen is here to help. She will prioritize your needs and help your vision come to life. Karen can guide you through the process with professionalism and wisdom to make sure that you are delighted with the result of your project.
